Three Healthy Foods That Increase Fertility For Women

If you suspect that you’re exhibiting some common signs of infertility, it’s a good idea to schedule a time that you can come into one of our two Kofinas Fertility Group locations and get an infertility evaluation. Over the course of several tests, we can determine whether or not it’s time for you to consider infertility treatments. However, many women also want to know what they can be doing at home to increase their chances of conception. One of these things is something you already do every day: eat!

In the struggle against infertility, there are lots of things you can’t control, like age and genetics. Diet, however, is something that’s well within our control, which makes it very convenient that eating certain foods can actually help improve ovulatory function. So what should you be eating to help increase your likelihood of producing a viable egg?

Complex Carbs

Contrary to what you might have read on weight loss websites, not all carbs are bad for you. Carbs that come from fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains, contain fiber and don’t result in the blood-sugar spike associated with “bad carbs” like those in white bread and chocolate cake.

Unsaturated Fat

Like carbs, you have to be aware that there are good fats and bad fats. Eating a lot of trans fats, often found in processed snack foods and some margarines, triggers high insulin levels which can affect ovulation. Instead, opt for unsaturated fats found in olive oil, avocado, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.

Plant-Based Protein

You don’t need to stop eating meat altogether during your attempts to get pregnant, but swapping in beans, nuts, seeds, and tofu can help regulate your weight while also boosting ovulatory function.
